A plethora of pressures are placed on the modern American high-schooler. I attempted to reveal the pressures placed on my own life through my art. The pressures to excel in academics, to maintain a healthy social life, and to explore the world of promiscuity are all expressed in my photographs from my junior year. Many students feel lost while dealing with the stresses of high school, and resort to obsessions with materials and people to cope. I explore students’ interactions with materials and how they sometimes believe that people are defined by what they have. I also highlight how students are pressured to be sexual, and how this affects their lives. My art conveys how students should realize that materials and sex are not all that makes up their lives, and that one’s self should take precedence over other obsessions.
